Description
Burning your candle for the first time
Before lighting, trim both wicks to approximately 5mm. This helps ensure a clean, even burn and prevents excess smoke. On the first burn, allow each candle surface to melt fully to the edges before extinguishing. This helps avoid tunnelling and allows the candle to burn evenly over time.
Burn for no longer than 3-4 hours at a time. Always place on a heat-safe surface and never leave unattended while lit. Once approximately 1cm of wax remains, discontinue burning.
After the candle has finished, allow the vessel to cool completely before cleaning and reusing. Do not burn candle when it is out of sight. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
Caring for the vessel
Once your candle has finished burning, the vessel was designed to return to the table – as a butter bell, salt dish, or small kitchen piece for everyday use. To clean and prepare your Butter Bell:
1. Allow the vessel to cool completely
Ensure both candle sections are fully cooled before handling or cleaning.
2. Remove remaining wax
If a small amount of wax remains, place the ceramic pieces in warm (not boiling) water for a few minutes to soften the soy wax. Gently lift or wipe away softened wax using a paper towel or soft cloth. Avoid using sharp utensils or scraping tools, as these may damage the ceramic glaze.
3. Wash gently
Clean using warm water, mild dish soap, and a soft sponge or cloth. Because the candle is made with soy wax and essential oils, harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaning products are not necessary.
4. Remove any remaining fragrance oils
If any scent remains, wipe the inside gently with warm soapy water and allow the vessel to air dry fully before use.
5. Dry thoroughly
Allow all pieces to dry completely before using as a butter bell or serving piece.
How to use your Butter Bell
A butter bell lives on your kitchen counter (not in the fridge) and keeps your butter perfectly soft, spreadable, and ready at a moment’s notice.
- Fill the base with a shallow layer of cold water, about 1-2cm
- Pack the lid with softened butter, pressing gently so that it holds.
- Invert the lid into the base so that the butter sits just above the water: close, but not touching.
- Refresh the water every 2-3 days for optimal freshness.
- Refill and repeat. Soft, spreadable butter – always on hand.
